Okay, I haven't actually left the computer yet, due to checking up on an old blog post, and discovering it is actually, in full, on the youtubes. It starts off slow, with a bit of slapstick, but then completely redeems itself and then some. 'Majestic!' is now my favorite fighting scene catch phrase. Basketball head has a distinct Murdoc personality. This seems more true to the original idea of Tank Girl than the movie, Whitney Action has an anarchic personality. She lies, cheats, steals, takes naps at innapropriate moments and generally is a ruthless badass. The format seems more appropriate to Hewletts comic style as well. Watch it! Watch it now!

It had been a while since the last zombie flick I've seen. Usually this means big budget films, with airbrushed Milla with top gear kukri knives in the ruins of Vegas. Today I watched a different one.

Spanning about 15 minutes, dear beautiful can change your perception of the zombie flick. It is strung together with Pure Emotion dear reader, and is visually a joy to behold. You can't tell where realism ends and animation begins at certain points. It slow built up and scared the hell out of me, but I couldn't stop watching lest I miss any part of this visual. I am very tired and this probably is art babble. Therefore, have some professional art babble, cut and pasted below:

A film by Roland Becerra. The sudden appearance of exotic flowers in New Haven spawns an unprecedented epidemic that threatens to destroy the city. Infected people cover themselves maniacally with lotions, creams, and rags, the result of a botched experiment by cosmetics giant, V-Zone.

Paul and Lauren, a married couple, are caught between the catastrophe and their own troubled relationship. Paul has grown defeated and depressed from job frustrations and their banal existence taken its toll on Lauren as she becomes more and more isolated and he descends into alcoholism. On her way out of the house to leave Paul, Lauren encounters one of the flowers and becomes infected. As her symptoms worsen, Paul's denial of Lauren's illness puts the couple in grave danger as the city is overrun with infected people, media frenzy, National Guard, protestors and a panicked populace.

On first glance, this new TV show that is airing on Discovery appears to be about modified vehicles duking it out in the middle of the desert while the engineers sit snugly in bunkers cackling away with their controls. That would be correct. There's been a surge of pyromaniac/gun crazy shows on Discovery Channel, which warms my heart to them more than dolphin migrating patterns ever could. The first episode airs tonight at 9.

A Tangent on This Subject

So Louise's post got me remembering that we're supposed to be edgy here. I've forgotten my edgy. I've been swept off my feet by accidentally stumbling upon the annual lindy hop showdown, filled with men in dapper hats and suspenders, women with frilly dresses and ankle socks, and tinny upbeat gramaphone cranking. I have forgotten my edgy. While it is possible to be too edgy, I'd like to contribute to the chunks of youtube links we happen to be peppering the page with, with several choice selections.

Exhibit A: Gothic Bellydancing. Gothic bellydancing is basically bellydaning, but edgy. Well worth this post. Some of it might be on the verge of too edgy, but I feel we need to make up for lost time. There are a few truly brilliant scenes here, as far as posture and costuming goes. Please excuse the Anne Rice.

My utter favorite bellydance performer that I know via the internet is Tempest performing to Jill Tracy/Exhibit B:

Once upon a time, I believed what many people believed about pole. It was for strippers. That was roughly a year ago. I'd like to think I've been let in on a little secret, when I think about pole. It is one of the most graceful, sensual dance forms, requiring the most strength and perseverance. Those ladies you see gyrating at the base with one hand gripped on the pole? That is not pole dancing, that is dancing next to a pole. They're the ones fucking up the rep of this extreme sport, the ones giving it that seedy, dingy name. They don't know the thrill of your first invert, the vast islands of bruises that appear on your skin or the calm smile of complete concentration.

Once upon a long time ago, I was in a dusty dvd rental store, and happened upon this film. LEt it be known that I'm not too fond of the horror genre, or asian ones in particular, but this one caught my eye.

I could never explain my fascination with Buddy Holly. I think it stemmed from watching Six String Samurai for the first time, wide eyed as Buddy fought the remnants of the area 51 staff on a post apocalyptic desert wasteland, flanked by his feral child companion. It was the Armageddon equivalent of a trendy minute pooch, and Buddy rocked on on his way to Lost Vegas to rule the world.

Luckily the first time I met Assud I was securely located in the vast abyss of solitude that is my room (on a good day), and thus could offend no one with my distasteful chuckles. This was the first time I dressed for Halloween since childhood. Halloween was a jolly affair, trick or treating, staying up late, harassing strangers for candy etc. There's a certain skill required, a finesse that no other holiday teaches you: How To Wrangle Free Candy By Being Cute.

Manipulative Tip #1: Empty your trick or treat bag periodically leaving one sad, small treat at the bottom so it looks like your Halloween is a sad, small one.

Manipulative Tip #2: Tell them you think their decorations are 'super-duper awesome.'

Halloween had also allowed my mother to stuff me into various degrees of humiliating bee suits while I was still a helpless toddler.

Halloween candy is separated into several categories, your normal "fun-sized" candy (Nothing fun about a fifth of a candy bar), the crazy old lady who gives out digestive and oat cookies (Immediately confiscated by my mother, convinced that they contained glass shards) and the people who love your costume so much, and think that you are so adorable, that they tell you to "Just take as much as you want, princess." That my non existent reader, was the jackpot. Usually these were the houses went all out on their decoration, involving smoke machines and animatronics. They were stuffed to the gills with candy, and had to be mined accordingly.

As could be expected I spent almost every Halloween as a princess.

This leads us to today's post-halloween topic, costumes. Take in the picture below:

What the hell happened? Exhibit Outfit #2 is called 'The Ravager.' It includes fishnet stockings, a chain studded choker, a buckled waist cincher and adorable little squishy thunderdome-esque boots. Georges Méliès (December 8, 1861 -- January 21, 1938), was one of the first French filmmakers, famous for leading many technical and narrative developments in the earliest cinema. He was born in Paris, where his family manufactured shoes. He was very innovative in the use of special effects. He accidentally discovered the stop trick, or substitution, in 1896, and was one of the first filmmakers to use multiple exposures, time-lapse photography, dissolves, and hand-painted colour in his films. Because of his ability to seemingly manipulate and transform reality with the cinematography, Méliès is sometimes referred to as the "Cinemagician."

'King Shot,' set in a casino in the middle of a desert for gamblers, wherein they find the skeleton of a giant man the size of King Kong, is the latest film in the works for Mr Jodorowski. Lynch's production company, 'Absurda' is backing it with full force. Jodorowski is calling it his "metaphysical spaghetti gangster film."
